Dr. V. N. Shrikhande

I have done my under-graduation from KEM Hospital, Mumbai, India and post-graduation (MS and DNB) in Surgery at Bombay Hospital, Mumbai under Dr. V. N. Shrikhande, a pioneer Gastrointestinal Surgeon. I have my super specialization DNB (Gastrointestinal Surgery) and also pursued FNB (Minimal Access Surgery), a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in under Dr. C. Palanivelu, a world-renowned Gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon. I have about 20 years teaching and research experience in the field of. I have also pursued MRCSEd (UK) from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and FACS from American College of Surgeons, Chicago, USA. I am a keen researcher and have 64 international articles published in indexed journals with 29 innovations well recognized by peers. Also, I have published 3 international books (German) pertaining to Minimal Access Gastrointestinal Surgery about tips and tricks for learning laparoscopic surgery. I am Associate Editor for about 20 international journals and Reviewer for about 60 journals. I have about 696 citations for my articles. I am a recognized post-graduate teacher for Masters in General Surgery and an examiner for undergraduates and postgraduates MS and DNB General Surgery. I am heading Gastrointestinal services of our institute. Till now, I have performed about 7000 major laparoscopic surgeries, 3000 colonoscopies and about 1000 esophago-gastro-duodenoscopies. I have a special interest in developing Natural orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery and have recently invented a modification of vaginal access and it has been published in Tropical Doctor as an original article (a PubMed indexed journal). I am also interested in developing Robotic surgery for the gastrointestinal tract. We plan to start a FNB (Minimal Access Surgery) at our institute. Presently, I am working as a Senior Professor of Surgery, Gastrointestinal & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, India.
