YASUO KONDO
INTERNATIONAL BEST RESEARCHER AWARD
Dr. Yasuo Kondo is a professor of Yamagata University in Yonezawa, Yamagata, Japan. He obtained his undergraduate degree (1981) and master degree (1983) in engineering from Osaka University in Suita, Osaka, Japan under the tutelage of the late Professor Tatsuichi Fukusako. He was immediately appointed as a research fellow at Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute upon receiving his M.A. degree. He conducted various research on nuclear technology for about 15 years. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering from Osaka University at Suita, Osaka, Japan in 1996 under the supervision of the Professor emeritus Chie Miyake. Yasuo Kondo was appointed to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tottori University in 1998 as an associated Professor. He was promoted to Full professor of Department of Mechanical System Engineering at Yamagata University in 2001. Yasuo Kondo has been challenging the research in a variety of fields. In his early career, he was involved in a large project for a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. The high-temperature gas-cooled reactor that he has contributed to developing is currently in operation in Oarai-cho, Ibaraki in Japan. After transferring to Tottori University in 1998, he began research that would contribute to a sustainable society. The zero-emission type technology, in which only oil is separated from the water-soluble cutting fluid being used in machining and the isolated oil is reused for water-soluble cutting fluid, has been registered as a patented technology in Japan. He has also been working for many years on monitoring systems for in-process sensing of tool wear and degradation of water-soluble cutting fluid. He has received requests to speak about this research at various international conferences around the world. However, he has rejected many of these requests because he is not very good at getting money for his research. It is a great pity. In recent years, he has also developed research in response to industry 4.0. The main focus is on the digitization of manual work. Digitization of manual operations not only creates innovative technologies that have not been noticed before but can also be useful in the training of workers’ skills. The study, A study on new machining method applied to a collaborative robot for drilling, which focused on digitizing manual hole drilling, resulted in the ISSN Award 2022 (International best researcher award). This is the second time he has received a major Award since receiving the Atomic Energy Society of Japan Award in 1994. Yasuo Kondo is not only a researcher but also a considerable exercise geek. He goes to a gym every day and strengthens his inner muscles through aerobic exercises and other activities. His secret pride is said to be his ripped abs.

Osamu Umezawa
Physical Metallurgy
Dr. Osamu Umezawa is a professor of physical metallurgy in the Faculty of Engineering, Yokohama National University. He graduated Waseda University on 1986 with bachelor of engineering degree in metallurgy, and was also awarded a PhD degree on 1992 by Waseda University. He was a researcher (1986-1995) and senior researcher (1996-2001) in National Research Institute for Metals (now National Institute for Materials Science), Japan. He was also a visiting research fellow in University of Cambridge, Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, from 1993 to 1995. He has moved to Yokohama National University as an associate professor (2002-2005), a professor (2006-now), a vice-president for education reform (2016-2017), and a dean, Faculty of Engineering (2019-now). What his physical metallurgy group has been doing are the patterns in which atoms, defects and grain structures are arranged in the solid state determine properties of polycrystalline. These arrangements can be designed by altering parameters such as the chemical compositions, phase transformations and deformations. Novel processes with low environmental load as well as high-strength and long-life materials in products are needed to create a system for inverse-utilization of recycle barriers, since materials security and long-life materials are a global imperative and the challenge on them should be recognized in the world. We work on microstructural design and the relationship between structure and deformation or fracture behavior. Our mission is to conceive novel materials or processes using critical experiments. He has carried out many scientific studies related to the cracking mechanism due to heterogeneous deformations in metals and alloys by crystallographic analysis, especially cyclic deformation, fracture analysis, cryogenic properties evaluation, etc. The microstructural design and modification of high-strength materials is a field that has been included in his study and yielded fruitful results. He has thereby made important contributions to the practical application of high-reliability and high-performance structural alloys, and then has proposed prototyping technologies. His major achievements in various areas are summarized as follows: (1) High-cycle fatigue properties of high strength polycrystalline alloys and their subsurface fatigue crack generation, (2) Prototype design of environmentally friendly, high-performance aluminium-forged products, and (3) Prototype design of high-strength and environmentally friendly steel. Further, he was instrumental in the building of an international community that discusses environmental issues of industrial products and materials from the viewpoints of both engineering and society. Based on his works, he was awarded a number of academic prizes by professional qualifications.

Prof. Hajime Shiraishi
INTERNATIONAL BEST RESEARCHER AWARD on Mechanical engineering
Hajime Shiraishi received a Ph.D. (1996) in engineering from Fukuoka University. Currently, He is a professor at Kurume University of Technology. In the past, he developed hydraulic servo valves and their controllers at a company, and also automated wastewater treatment plants using fuzzy control and GA. He has also applied the control technology used in these projects to the development of various equipment in the industry. At the university, he is conducting research on devices for extending healthy life expectancy. These devices do not use motors or other actuators to amplify human power, as is often the case in society, but rather use methods that allow people to work with their inherent power as efficiently as possible.
Yasunori Fujikoshi
My name is Yasunori Fujikoshi. I got Doctor of Science in the area of Statistics, especially in the area of multivariate statistical analysis.
The following two books are strongly related to my research. One is “Multivariate statistics; High-dimensional and Large-sample approximations” published in Hoboken: Wiley, 2010, by Y. Fujikoshi, V. V. Ulyanov and R. Shimizu. The other is “Non-asymptotic analysis of approximations for multivariate statistics” published in Springer, 2020, by Y. Fujikoshi and V. V. Ulyanov.
Recently, in multivariate analysis it is important to analyze high-dimensional date, in addition to the usual multivariate data. The first book gives various high-dimensional methods, in addition to the traditional multivariate methods. Especially, in addition to classical large sample approximations, various high dimensional approximations are introduced.
The second book treats with multivariate approximations. An important problem related to multivariate approximations concerns their errors. Most results contain only so-called order estimates. However, such error estimates do not provide information on actual errors. Ideally, we need non-asymptotic or computable error bounds that relate to these actual errors, in addition to order estimates. This book gives various non -asymptotic bounds for high-dimensional and large-sample approximations.
One of my research interests is concerned with selection of variables and models in multivariate analysis. An approach is to use model selection criteria AIC and BIC, etc. However, it has been pointed that there are computationally problems especially in high-dimensional multivariate data. To avoid this computational problem, there is a method due to Nishii et al. (1988), which determines “selection” or “no selection” for each variable by comparing the model after removing a variable and the full model. The method was recently named as KOO (knock-one-out) method. In Fujikoshi (2022, JMA) it was pointed that such approaches have high-dimensional consistency in multivariate regression model and discriminant analysis.

Prince prakash jeba kumar J
INTERNATIONAL NOBEL RESEARCH AWARD for excellence in Marine Ecology/Ecofriendly technology development
A marine ecologist is on the mission of understanding the marine ecosystem and perceiving the expressions of nature. Intend to reveal the secrets of our oceans’ remarkable power to handle the insatiable human endeavors of exploitation and providing resources liberally with a challenge, having a vision of developing eco-friendly technology by mimicking natural ecosystem processes and demonstrating. As a scientist involved in assessing ocean technology activities’ eco-friendly nature and achieving green inventiveness in coastal engineering by carrying out many marine environmental impact assessment studies, researching green facade development through mangrove pod technology, and drawing pollution management plans through waste load allocation studies. In the current scenario, economic development needs a flagship of eco-friendly technology. The perceived technologies, like beach wells for plankton-free seawater, mitigate climate change impact disasters by enhancing photosynthetic reactions, enabling the release of more oxygen & consumption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This technology also prevents fish fecundity loss (eggs & Larvae), enhancing national capture fishery and alien-free ballast water for the shipping industry to prevent the spread of invasive alien species (IAS) worldwide. The passion for conserving neglected microscopic planktonic form is a noble cause that shall slow down the gears of human extinction from the beautiful mother earth. Further, the plankton/microbe-free feed water intake point enables predator-free seawater to be intensive/semi-intensive aquaculture forms. It allows improved yield and is less prone to microbial diseases from intake water bodies like sea/river/tanks. Microbially induced calcium precipitation (MICP) shall be utilized for shoreline stabilization as a non-conventional technology. Enhancing epibiota on coastal erosion protection structures and artificial reef modules produced inshore fishery for small-scale artisanal fishing. The utility of microbiota by aggregating and enhancing techniques like microbially induced calcium precipitation (MICP) is a suggested choice for shorelines & dune stabilization in a non-conventional technology. Also, this technology is beneficial in pollutant containment for persistent metal pollutants. They aided as carbon sinks are some critical findings in the scientific carrier.

Rohit Dubepatil
International Best Innovation Award for the Research & Excellence in Antioxidant and Vitamin E
My childhood and education was in a small village in vicinity of Ahmednagar district. Post studies had an opportunity to work with TATA Chemicals Innovation Centre, where I was given an opportunity to establish the TATA Innovation Center for Research & Development in Pune. On completion, it was inaugurated by Mr. Ratan Tata. During my stint, I worked under Dr. Murali Sastry which broadened my horizon and added a new zeal of innovation in me. Entrepreneurship always fascinated me and I began exploring different opportunities for my entrepreneurship plunge. This is where I came across Oil and Fat based Nutrition and opportunities. Tocotrienol being one of them kindled my interest as it was very less explored. Our further search on it revealed the immense potential which led to start of Orah Nutrichem Pvt Ltd. Even before starting a company we had started research since 2014. With almost 5 years of intense research we could commercialize the product into cosmetics, food and Nutraceuticals. In each of the above areas we identified a problem statement and tried to work on solutions Cosmetics – dearth of potent Natural anti-oxidants due to which synthetic anti-oxidants were being used. We could successfully launch a products that is now widely accepted. Milk – longetivity of shelf life for raw and processed milk – trials are successful and product has moved towards commercialization – Patent applied for Food – Water Soluble Vitamin E – Product successful – commercialization underway Orah Nutrichem works on Values of Ethics, Innovation, Collaboration, Integrity and Care and we follow it in action in our day to day routine. We believe that the best nutrition comes from Nature. With this in mind we also have another company Sengee Biochem Exim Pvt Ltd that works in manufacturing and distribution of healthy food products.
