Dr. Suhas K. Kore is a distinguished medical professional with a remarkable career in public health, spanning various leadership roles in the Maharashtra state health department. He completed his MBBS and MD, laying the foundation for a dedicated and impactful career in public health and medicine. Dr. Kore started his professional journey as a Medical Officer in the Public Health Department of Maharashtra. His early work involved providing quality healthcare services in various rural and urban settings, contributing to the improvement of community health. Over the years, he held several prominent positions, including District Health Officer (DHO), Taluka Health Officer (THO), and Additional District Health Officer (ADHO). His leadership and expertise in public health have earned him recognition and respect in the medical community. One of Dr. Kore’s key contributions came during his tenure as THO in Hatkanangle Block, where he led the vulnerability mapping project for Ichalkaranji. This pioneering work aimed at assessing and addressing the region’s health risks and challenges, particularly in terms of communicable diseases and healthcare accessibility. His proactive approach to healthcare management has been widely appreciated for improving the health systems in underserved areas. Later, as DHO in Washim, Dr. Kore focused his efforts on reducing the rate of low birth weight (LBW) in the region, an issue that significantly impacts child health. Through strategic interventions and healthcare programs, he successfully lowered the LBW rate, which directly contributed to better neonatal outcomes. His research on LBW led to a paper published in the International Journal of Community Medicine, earning him the prestigious ISSN Award for his contributions to community health. Another notable achievement during his time in Washim was the launch of the TB X-ray Van, an innovative initiative aimed at increasing tuberculosis case notifications and providing more accessible diagnostic services in remote areas. This initiative played a crucial role in improving tuberculosis awareness, early detection, and treatment, significantly impacting the region’s health outcomes. Currently, Dr. Kore serves as the Principal of the Health and Family Welfare Training Centre (HFWTC) in Pune, where he continues to contribute to the professional development of healthcare workers across Maharashtra. His work at HFWTC focuses on enhancing training programs for health professionals, ensuring that they are well-equipped to meet the evolving challenges of public health. Dr. Suhas K.
