I, Dr. Aijaz Mohi ud din Bhat, was born on the 16th of July, 1983. From an early age, I displayed a keen interest in the field of medicine, which paved the way for my journey into psychiatry. I hail from a background that values education and service, and these principles have been the guiding force throughout my career. My early education began at Mohmadia Educational Institute Khore Pattan, where I completed my 10th standard in 1998. I then pursued my 12th standard at Iqbal Memorial Institute Srinagar, completing it in the year 2000. My passion for medicine led me to Kazakh National Medical University, Almaty, Kazakhstan, where I earned my MD Physician degree in 2009. With a strong foundation in medical sciences, I further specialized in psychiatry and completed my MD (Psychiatry) in 2023 from the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura. Professional Journey My professional journey has been enriched by diverse experiences in various healthcare settings. I commenced my career as an Assistant Commandant/Medical Officer under MHA GOI in Leh, serving from May 2012 to November 2017. This role not only strengthened my clinical acumen but also honed my leadership and crisis management skills. In November 2017, I transitioned to District Hospital Baramulla under JK Health Services as a Medical Officer, where I served for two years and six months. This tenure deepened my engagement with psychiatric patients, enhancing my ability to manage complex cases. In June 2020, I embarked on my postgraduate studies at SKIMS Soura, dedicating three years to acquiring in-depth knowledge and training in psychiatry. Currently, I am serving as a Registrar in the Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College Baramulla since August 2023. This position has allowed me to apply my expertise in a clinical and academic setting, guiding future medical professionals while continuing my pursuit of excellence in patient care. Special Interests My special interests lie in Liaison Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (RTMS), and Ketamine Therapy. These fields have intrigued me due to their evolving nature and impact on patient well-being. I am committed to staying at the forefront of psychiatric advancements to offer evidence-based care. Research Contributions Throughout my career, I have actively engaged in research to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in psychiatry. Some of my notable research works include: • The study of obsessive psychiatric disorders in outpatient settings. • Correlation of menopausal symptoms with psychiatric comorbidities. • Investigating post-stroke depression and fatigue in stroke survivors. • Exploring the sociodemographic profile, severity of depression, and adherence in type-2 diabetic patients. • Assessing patient satisfaction in government and private psychiatric settings. • Correlative analysis of dissociative disorders among the Kashmiri population. • A rare case report on obsessive-compulsive disorder in a patient with Kallmann syndrome. These research endeavors reflect my dedication to enhancing psychiatric care and understanding the intricate connections between mental health disorders and other medical conditions. Looking Ahead As I continue my journey in psychiatry, my mission remains to provide compassionate and evidence-based care to my patients. I aspire to contribute further to psychiatric research, explore innovative treatment modalities, and mentor upcoming professionals in the field. My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between psychiatric care and general medical practice, ensuring holistic well-being for individuals suffering from mental health disorders. My journey thus far has been one of perseverance, learning, and unwavering commitment to my field. I look forward to making meaningful contributions to psychiatry and positively impacting the lives of those in need.
