Dr.Lalitha Indrani Malwenna (MBBS [Sri Lanka], MSc and MD in Community Medicine) is a specialist in Public Health, currently working as the Deputy Director Training, National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), Kalutara, Sri Lanka. NIHS is the premier Public Health Training Institute established in 1926 as the first Public Health Training Institute in South East Asia.
Dr. Malwenna graduated in MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1996. She obtained MSc and MD in Community Medicine from the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2001 and 2010 respectively. Dr.Indrani Malwenna completed the third phase of MD Community Medicine in the La – Trobe University, Victoria, Australia in 2013. She is with 24 years experience in the field of Public Health as a Medical officer of Health, as a Consultant Community Physician in the Ministry of Health and as a registrar in the department of Public Health, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Kalaniya, Sri Lanka. She contributes to the development of the field of Public Health through training of Public Health work force nationally and internationally. As the Deputy Director Training, she bears the sole responsibility of ensuring the highest quality of all the trainees of the National Institute of Health Sciences to provide island wide public health service.
Dr.Indrani Malwenna prefers the fields of epidemiology and reproductive health with special attention to maternal care, infant and child care and Family planning. She has immensely contributed to research in the field of reproductive health by conducting and being the principal investigator in many researches with National and international publications. Apart from being a researcher, she is the author of eight books published nationally and internationally related to the field of Public Health.
